MOJO Academy Book Brief #33 - A Revolution of Common Sense

Book Title: A Revolution of Common Sense: How Donald Trump Stormed Washington and Fought for Western Civilization
Author: Scott Jennings
Publishing Year: November 2025
Number of Pages: 288 pages
Audible Time: Approximately 9 hours 29 minutes.

Brief Summary

Scott Jennings has spent years as the CNN senior political contributor who shows up night after night, outnumbered five-to-one on air, defending conservative positions to a panel that would rather he didn’t. So a full-throated defense of Trump’s second term and its first 100 days from him is no surprise at all. And, frankly— it’s exactly the case he’s been making on live television for years now. What is notable is that he’s making it from inside enemy territory (CNN), with the access and receipts most conservative writers never get.

The book takes you inside the Oval Office, onto Air Force One, and behind the curtain with Rubio, Bessent, Hegseth, Burgum, and Musk. Jennings frames Trump’s entire second-term agenda around a single deceptively simple idea — common sense. Immigration, DEI, the transgender issue, energy policy, the AI race with China — Jennings argues all of it comes down to whether Washington will finally act like sane adults again.

Now, Jennings doesn’t pretend Trump is flawless. He’s a former Republican strategist, not a cheerleader with no memory of the rough edges. But the throughline of the book is this — for years, the American people have been asked to accept as normal things that are not normal, and they are done accepting it.

You see, this is a fight that plays out the same way every time — a nation full of common sense gets told for years that common sense is actually extremism, until enough people finally say enough. Jennings is watching that same fight play out in real time, from a front-row seat of the old (very old) legacy media.

Two Important Quotes

1. “For Trump, the contrast on this issue ‘is only a small fraction of the commonsense revolution that is now, because of us, sweeping the entire world,’ he told Congress. ‘Common sense has become a common theme, and we will never go back. Never. Never going to let that happen.’ Indeed, it is just common sense! For years now, the American people have been polite about those on the Left who claim that a boy can magically become a girl just by verbally ‘identifying’ as one, or vice versa. But in my experience, there is only so much lunacy voters are willing to take before they say enough.”

That word — polite — is doing a lot of work in that quote. For years we were polite. We nodded along. We didn’t want to be the difficult one at Thanksgiving. And Jennings is right that politeness has a shelf life, because eventually a nation full of people who know two plus two equals four gets tired of being told it equals five.

It is not lunacy to say a man cannot become a woman. That is not a controversial statement. That is biology, and biology does not care about feelings, and it never has.

2. “The truth is the Democratic Party is in a crisis of illiberalism, intolerant of any view that falls outside of accepted, anti–Western Civilization dogma. Left-wing students regularly ask for ‘trigger warnings’ on content that might offend them. Liberal interest groups demand that classic works of literature from authors such as Ian Fleming and Roald Dahl be censored to reflect today’s snowflake sensitivities. And many contemporary cancelations revolve around the trans issue. In 2020, the writer Abigail Shrier published a book titled Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters. In it, she carefully examined the evidence for and against so-called gender-affirming care for kids. As you might expect, she found that many young people—especially girls with autism—were being falsely led to believe that they were born in the wrong body and that medical intervention could make them their true selves. Her evidence was iron-clad, and the reasoning was sharp.”

Jennings names the Democratic Party plainly here — not “some on the left,” not “certain progressive voices.” The Democratic Party. That’s the kind of specificity this whole style guide of mine demands, and we were told after 2024 that the Democratic party would finally pull back from the radical ideas it had been pushing for over a decade. It didn’t pull back. It doubled down, then tripled down, and now the party as a whole isn’t just outside the mainstream — it’s simply crazy. Reference the Democratic Socialists of America taking over the old Democratic part.

here’s the one policy, the one idea, the very main point—Transgenderism—as the major point anchoring the anti-Western civilization dogma Jennings is describing. A single policy — affirming that men can become women — and not one leader in the entire Democratic Party will call it crazy. That’s frankly lunatic. That’s bizarre.

My Nuggets of Wisdom!

Here comes our most important nugget.

It is not crazy to believe men cannot become women, and women cannot become men. It never was. What’s crazy is that we’ve spent the last several years pretending otherwise was the reasonable position and stating the obvious was the extreme one.

I listened (I crush my books on audible) to portions of this with my own common sense radar going off page after page, nodding along the way you nod along to something you already knew but never heard said out loud with this much clarity.

Jennings isn’t a theologian or a philosopher. He’s a strategist who’s been in enough rooms to know how this fight actually gets won — and he’s telling you it’s won by simply refusing to go along with the lunacy anymore.

A few things worth flagging directly from the book:

  • Jennings writes from inside CNN, not from a safe conservative echo chamber — that access is rare and it matters, plus it’s refreshing that he is calling out crazy every night. Watch him, he’s quite good.

  • He names the Democratic Party’s radical illiberalism specifically, not vaguely

Now, as a Catholic, I’ll say what Jennings doesn’t quite say outright — this isn’t just political common sense. But this women becoming man thing is simple as natural law. Furthermore, “Man and woman He created them comes to us from Genesis. That’s not a bumper sticker. That’s the created order, and no amount of Washington policy debate changes it.

Final Recommendation

This book is for anyone who’s ever bit their tongue at a family dinner rather than say the obvious thing out loud. It’s for the political junkie who wants the inside access most books never get. And it’s for anyone who needs the reminder that saying two plus two equals four is not radical — it’s sanity.

Jennings gives you a front-row seat to a fight that is far from over. Read it, get your footing, and stop being polite about lunacy.

And be sure to check out my new newsletter, Crazy vs. Common Sense, where I’m tracking this movement in real time — book by book, dumb idea after dumb idea. This isn’t GOP versus Democrat anymore. This is crazy versus common sense.

Keep fighting the good fight.

  • American Marxism by Mark Levin – the great one Mark Levin names the same ideological rot Jennings describes, tracing exactly how it took hold of institutions across the country.

  • The Case for America – Same fight, different angle — defending founding principles against those who’d rather we forget them.

  • Irreversible Damage by Abigail Shrier – Jennings leans on her directly in this book; if her evidence convinced him, it’s worth seeing for yourself.
