The Questions Dr. Fauci Didn't Want to Answer

Let me tell you something strange—or not so strange in Washington DC— that just happened.

Dr. Anthony Fauci has testified in front of Congress over 250 times. Not once, in all those years, did he refuse to answer a question. Then this week, he did. He used his right to stay silent instead of answering.

That’s a big deal. Something changed.

Here’s why. Senator Rand Paul just released more than 1,000 pages of Fauci’s private diary from the pandemic. Days later, Fauci sat in front of the Senate and wouldn’t answer questions about it.

Think about that for a second. If you had nothing to hide, would you stay quiet? Probably not. You’d want to explain yourself.

Here’s a small story to help you picture it. Imagine your friend tells you, in front of everyone, “I have no idea who broke the window.” But you saw a text on their phone the night before that said, “I think I might have broken it, not totally sure how bad it is.” That’s not really lying, exactly. But it’s not the full truth either. It’s two different versions of the same story — one for the group, one just for them.

That’s basically what people are saying happened here. Except this isn’t a broken window. It’s a virus that killed millions of people, and decisions that shaped how your entire country lived for two years.

So now people are asking a simple question: was Fauci just wrong sometimes, like anyone can be wrong? Or did he know one thing privately and tell the public something different? Can we get to the truth?

Those are two very different stories.

Three books have been making the case for a long time that it’s the second one. Each book looks at a different piece of the puzzle:

  • Rand Paul wrote a book called Deception: The Great Covid Cover-Up. He says Fauci knew more about where COVID came from than he told the public — and may have helped hide it.

  • Scott Atlas was part of the White House COVID team under President Trump. In his book, A Plague Upon Our House, he says Fauci pushed for harsh lockdowns that hurt more people than they helped, and shut out anyone who disagreed with him.

  • Steve Deace wrote a book called Faucian Bargain. He argues Fauci became the symbol of something bigger — a system that used fear to grab power it was never supposed to have.

Three books. Three different angles. But they all point at the same idea.

This isn’t really about masks or lockdowns anymore. It’s about something simpler: were you and I told the truth?

That’s the real question. Not “did Fauci make mistakes.” Everyone makes mistakes, especially during a scary, fast-moving crisis. The real question is whether the people in charge told you what they actually believed — or told you whatever would keep you calm and quiet.

Here’s why that matters so much. When you trust someone — a doctor, a teacher, a leader — you’re not just trusting that they’re smart. You’re trusting that they’ll tell you the truth even when the truth is messy or scary. The moment that trust breaks, it’s hard to get back. And once one expert is caught doing this, people start doubting every expert, even the honest ones. That’s the real cost here. It’s bigger than one man.

On Saturday, I’ll go deeper. I’ll show you what’s actually in the diary, walk through what each of our 3 books claim in detail, and explain the bigger pattern behind all of it — one that matters far beyond Fauci—though he has to explain himself.

And the fact, that he brought a team of 6 lawyers and one lawyer had to be thrown out of a Senate committee because he wouldn’t follow directions is even more bizarre. Why so many lawyers? Why did the lead lawyer have to sit right next to the witness when he was instructed to sit behind the ropes?

If you want to read more right now before Saturday’s posting, check out the MOJO Academy book briefs on two of these books. And let me know in the comments if you’d like me to put together a book brief on Steve Deace’s Faucian Bargain too:

  • Rand Paul’s Deception:

  • Scott Atlas’s A Plague Upon Our House:

Until Saturday and as always, keep fighting the good fight.
